Adventure or Simplicity?
When you’re looking for a place to take your photos you may draw a blank… I’m here to say you would be surprised how close to home your actual dream location is! I’ve taken photos in alleys of cities and out in the middle of the high desert of New Mexico. What really makes the photo is YOU.
In the following photos, you’ll see a couple in a gorgeous meadow - we were out in Cibola National Forest of New Mexico. I had road-tripped to Gallup, New Mexico and then I had driven up into the mountains for two and a half hours past cell service to get to the photoshoot location. And what do you focus on when you see the images? Their faces and their body language. The background is utterly gorgeous, but if you are looking for authentic moments between you and yours it’s totally possible to find right in your backyard. For example, the wedding photos down below are taken at the bride’s family home, she will forever look at them and remember not just her wedding day, but her family and her childhood.
In another vein, I’ve put down some portraits I took to showcase the personalities of my subject and their interest. In those cases, often location changes the vibe. You can see that if the same poses and actions were photographed in a different location the photos would be completely different. The model is still pulling a considerable amount of weight to create the moment, however, imagine the woman playing violin in her living room, it wouldn’t be the exact same feeling. We could create a different beautiful feeling of elegance and peace in the home, but you wouldn’t be able to almost hear her violin singing across the mountains and serenading the cows, transporting her back to her ancestral homeland of Ireland.
Location matters, if you want to use it.
